BACE Practice Exam Course

Biotechnology Aptitude and Competency Exam (BACE)

The BACE Practice Exam Course is a free preparation resource that helps candidates assess their current knowledge, practice BACE content, identify areas for additional study, and build familiarity with the knowledge and skills assessed on the exam.

The course includes six modules that candidates can use throughout their preparation. Educators may also use course activities and candidate results to help identify areas where additional instruction or review may be beneficial.

      Access the BACE Practice Exam Course

      Candidates participating through a registered BACE Exam Site receive enrollment instructions and an access code from their Exam Site.

      What's Included

      The BACE Practice Exam Course includes six modules designed to support different stages of exam preparation.

      Module 1: Proficiency Plotter

      Identify your strengths and areas for growth.

      The Proficiency Plotter includes eight self-assessments aligned with BACE content categories. Candidates rate their familiarity with specific topics and receive a report showing areas of relative strength and areas that may benefit from additional study.

      Candidates can complete the activity more than once to track their progress during exam preparation. Educators with appropriate course access can also use results to help guide instruction and review.

      Module 2: Regulatory Compliance and Quality Systems Review

      Build knowledge of an important area of biotechnology practice.

      This module provides focused instruction in regulatory compliance and quality systems, including regulations, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), Current Good Documentation Practices (CGDocP), and biotechnology company operations.

      The material is particularly useful when these topics have received limited coverage in a candidate's biotechnology coursework.

      The Regulatory Compliance and Quality Systems Overview is also available publicly through BACE Candidate Resources.

      Module 3: Trial Run

      Practice BACE content and become familiar with the assessment experience.

      Trial Run provides practice assessments aligned with BACE content. Candidates can use the assessments to apply their knowledge, identify topics that require additional review, and become more familiar with BACE-style questions.

      Practice assessments may be completed multiple times. Educators with appropriate course access can review candidate results and use them to help guide additional preparation.

      Module 4: Number Crunch

      Strengthen the math skills used in biotechnology.

      Number Crunch provides additional practice with mathematical concepts and calculations relevant to BACE content. Candidates can use the module for targeted review or additional practice in areas where they need to strengthen their skills.

      Module 5: Competency Challenge and Badges

      Demonstrate your knowledge across BACE content categories.

      The Competency Challenge includes eight category-based quizzes designed to reflect BACE content and cognitive complexity. Candidates have two attempts to complete each quiz and earn the associated digital badge.

      Results can also help candidates identify content that may require additional study before taking the BACE. Candidates should use their results as feedback when planning their remaining preparation.

      Module 6: Stepping into the Biotech Workforce

      Prepare for the transition from the classroom to the biotechnology workforce.

      This module provides career-readiness resources, including guidance for developing a professional LinkedIn profile, networking, preparing for interviews, communicating professionally, and creating resumes, cover letters, and other job application materials.

      Career-readiness content in this module is not assessed on the BACE. The module is included to help candidates translate their biotechnology education and credential into the next stage of their academic or professional journey.
